Mise en scene for Legally Blonde

In this shot from Legally Blonde we see some of the main characters line up in front of the judge getting ready to state their points in court. Here the use of costume for each character provides the audience with important information for each character.
We see the main character 'Elle' wearing a pink suit whereas the other characters are wearing a black formal suits this signifies to the audience that 'Elle' is trying to be formal however express that she is a girly girl.The use of the colour pink also makes 'Elle' (the main character) stand out, making the audience focus on her.Whereas the other characters are wearing black suits this shows that this is a formal event and needs to look professional.
Also all the characters hair in this shot is very smart this also creates a professional tone.
The make-up in this scene is seen on the two women, the woman in the black suit is very minimal however 'Elle' is wearing a pink lipstick which again makes the audience focus on her.
In this scene the body language is a key factor to 'Mise en scene' we see the three characters in black suits stood smartly whereas 'Elle's' body language connotes excitement.
In this scene the three characters wearing black suits have very serious facial expressions, showing that they are ready for business, creating a professional tone, whereas Elle is seen to have a big smile this has further connotations that she is excited about being in court yet doesn't understand the real seriousness of being in a court room.
This shot is set in a court room this signifies/creates a serious tone yet Elle soon breaks this tone,creating a more relaxed atmosphere by her use of mise en scene.
In the shot we also see Brooke Taylor Windham in the background, where as the lawyers are seen in the foreground this shows connotations that the lawyers are fighting for Brooke.
The lawyers standing in-front of Brooke also has connotations that they are protecting Brooke.

In this shot we see Elle sat down on a area of grass outside of the university, with a group of different individuals. The setting creates a relaxed atmospheres suggesting that these people are friendly and are open to getting to know one another. Elle in this scene is seen to be wearing bright pink and is also sat on a pink/red blanket. The use of these bright colours automatically attract the audiences attention, these colours also make Elle the main character stand out.

The other characters are wearing very dark/dull clothing this signifies that these characters are less important than Elle.

The clothing also has creates an idea of what the character is like as a person. The use of bright colours in Elle's outfit has connotations that she is a bubbly, friendly person whereas the other characters seen unapproachable and reserved.

The body language in this scene varies, Elle is sat with her body facing towards the camera this again signifies that Elle is the main character as she is more connected with the audience.

The body language form man lay down next to Elle has connotations that he is relaxed. He is also looking at his nails this signifies that he is not that interested in the conversation or the people around him.

The man in the center of the screen is not that important/ interesting to us as we cant see his facial expressions or all of his body language, however tough he isn't the main focus to us they way most of the characters are looking at him implies that he is interesting to them. The man to the left of the man in the center is seen sat in a ball with his arms surrounding his legs the use of his body language has connotations that he is nervous and very shy.

The hair in this clip is not really visible on Elle as it is being covered by a smart pink hat the use of this hat represents authority and power which she increasingly gains throughout the film.

The other characters hair is quiet messy and not really taken care of. Another character is also wearing a hat however the colour grey signifies uncleanliness and weak which is the opposite as to how Elle is being portrayed.

Elle's facial expression in this scene is very happy as she looks to be listening to the man in the center endearingly signifying that she is trying to learn from different people.

Again the man looking down signifies that he is not interested whereas the other characters all seem to be showing respect by making eye contact with the speaker.

In this scene we see Elle walking through the school corridors with many of her fellow students around her. Elle's costume in this scene has toned down compared to her usual bright pink. The colour green/blue signifies to the audience that this is Elle trying too show her business/intelligent side. Though the colours are more muted than previous costumes she still stands out as the other students around her are wearing very dull and boring outfits, again making Elle the main focus.

Elle's facial expression in this scene is very smiley, this has connotations that she is ready to start this new experience at this new school. The other two characters at both sides of Elle are looking at her in almost shock, this signifies that the other characters may be wondering why she is at the school.

The expressions could also implies that they don't think that Elle is capable of attending such an intelligent school.

In this shot Elle is seen walking forward with her head held high and her shoulders back, this has connotations that Elle is feeling confident and powerful as she is heading to her first class at Harvard.

The two other characters are positioned so that Elle is the main focus. The characters on either side of Elle are both looking back this body language connotes that they are questioning who they saw and wondering what Elle is doing at this school.
